Amiskwaciy Waskahikan: Indigenous Experiences in Edmonton


Mackenzie Brown is First Nations Cree from Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation, presently residing in Amiskwaciwaskahikan, Edmonton. She is a performer, drummer, tourism entrepreneur, philanthropist and advocate for at-risk youth within the Edmonton space. Mackenzie and her mother carry out as “Warrior Girls”. They drum and educate round Alberta for the Northern Alberta Lecturers Convention, the annual Jasper Darkish Skies Pageant, Youth Dream Catchers Convention, Canada Day, Aboriginal Day festivities and extra. Together with drumming, Mackenzie can also be an avid acrylic artist and conventional First Nations crafts artisan. Her artwork has been featured within the Pump Home Gallery, the Edson Gallery Museum, the Grey Gallery Grant MacEwan, acknowledged for the Alberta Indian Arts and Crafts Award of 2017, featured for the Alberta Enterprise Competitors 2017 and offered to folks travelling world extensive at Jasper Park Lodge. She can also be the latest recipient of the 2019 Esquao Award for Youngsters’s Future.
